This immersive 10-day journey through Northeast India takes you from the rhino-dotted grasslands of Assam to the serene mountains of Arunachal Pradesh. Begin your adventure in Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its one-horned rhinoceroses, wild elephants, and vibrant birdlife. Enjoy early morning elephant safaris and thrilling jeep rides through the tall elephant grass, and perhaps visit a tribal village or orchid park in the evening. From the plains of Assam, head into the misty hills of Bomdila and Dirang, where you’ll encounter ancient Buddhist monasteries, gushing hot springs, and sweeping valley views. Continue the ascent to Tawang, home to one of the largest monasteries in the world, the Tawang Monastery, and the birthplace of the sixth Dalai Lama. Along the way, cross the picturesque Sela Pass and stop at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial. In Tawang, explore sacred sites, Tibetan cultural hubs, and optionally visit the stunning Madhuri Lake. Wind down your journey with a return through Bomdila, ending in Guwahati with an optional sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra and visit to the revered Kamakhya Temple. Yes. Indian travellers require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Arunachal Pradesh (for Bomdila, Dirang, and Tawang). It can be easily obtained online via the Arunachal government portal or arranged through your travel provider. No permit is needed for Assam (Kaziranga or Guwahati).
The ideal time is October to April, when Kaziranga is open for safaris and Arunachal’s roads are accessible. Avoid the monsoon (June to September), as Kaziranga shuts down and landslides are common in hilly regions.
Some drives are long (6–8 hrs), especially in the hills. However, the routes are scenic and include several interesting stops. A good vehicle and patient pacing help ensure a comfortable journey.
Layered clothing is best. Days in Assam can be warm, while Arunachal is significantly cooler. Pack warm jackets for Tawang and Sela Pass, especially from November to February.
Yes. Elephant and jeep safaris are generally safe and enjoyable for all age groups. However, elephant rides may not be recommended for those with back issues.
Yes, with some customizations. Ensure rest stops during long drives and book comfortable accommodations. Avoid high-altitude visits like Madhuri Lake if prone to altitude sickness.
Yes. Most hotels and restaurants in Assam and Arunachal offer vegetarian options. However, choices may be limited in remote towns, so it’s advisable to inform your travel agent in advance.
Mobile connectivity is good in Kaziranga and Guwahati. In Arunachal, expect patchy networks—BSNL and Airtel work best in Tawang and Dirang. Wi-Fi may be available at hotels but can be slow.
